How doesA TransformerChangeVoltage?
When an electric current flows through the primary coil of a transformer, it induces an alternating electromagnetic field. This electromagnetic field induces a current in the secondary coil, resulting in the formation of a voltage different from that in the primary coil. The reason for this voltage change lies in the difference in the number of turns between the primary and secondary coils. If the primary coil has more turns than the secondary coil, the voltage in the secondary coil will be lower than that in the primary coil, and this is known as a step-down transformer. Conversely, if the primary coil has fewer turns than the secondary coil, the voltage in the secondary coil will be higher than that in the primary coil, and this is called a step-up transformer. By adjusting the ratio of turns in the coils, transformers can achieve different voltage outputs to meet various power requirements. This technology is widely employed in the transmission and distribution of electrical energy.
