How should an overloaded transformer in operation be handled?

When an operating transformer experiences overload, it may manifest as the current exceeding the steady-state value, signaling, and alarm bells sounding, among other indicators. Operators should take appropriate steps based on the following principles:

Check whether the current on each side exceeds the specified value and report to the duty officer.

Inspect the oil level and oil temperature of the transformer, and simultaneously activate all cooling devices.

Adjust the operating mode promptly; if a spare transformer is available, put it into operation.

Contact dispatch to promptly adjust the load distribution.

If it is a normal overload, determine the allowable operating time based on the overload multiple and enhance monitoring of oil level and temperature, ensuring they do not exceed specified limits. If the specified time is exceeded, reduce the load immediately.

In the case of an accident overload, follow the manufacturer's regulations regarding the allowable multiple and duration for overload. If the overload multiple and duration exceed specified limits, reduce the load on the transformer according to regulations.
