How to isolate the metal particles generated by the submerged oil pump?

There are various types of submerged oil pumps for forced oil cooling in transformers, including axial flow, disc-type, and general submerged oil pumps, but they all have the potential to produce metal particles due to wear. If these metal particles enter the transformer body, the consequences can be severe.

The generation of metal particles in the submerged oil pump occurs as follows: during bearing wear, mica-like iron particles are produced from the inner and outer races; friction between the balls and the cage generates needle-like iron particles; friction between the motor rotor and stator produces extremely thin sheet-like iron particles; friction between the oil pump impeller and the pump casing results in extremely fine copper particles; and when the motor burns out, short-circuited winding burnout produces many droplet-shaped copper particles. The iron particles from bearing wear and rotor friction, as well as the copper particles from winding burnout, all circulate in the oil pump's self-circulating oil circuit; while the copper particles from the friction between the oil pump impeller and the pump casing are in the main oil circuit. To minimize the generation of metal particles, it is advisable to reduce the speed of the submerged oil pump. When using a four-pole low-lift motor and high-quality bearings, the motor part is less prone to wear, thus reducing the generation of metal particles. Especially for guide-cooled transformers, the flow of charged particles can also be minimized. Otherwise, it is essential to adopt appropriate measures to isolate the metal particles to ensure that no metal particles enter the transformer.
