The Principles and Benefits of Using a Sliding Core Transformer

The principle of operation for a sliding core transformer is based on the concept of "sliding." The transformer consists of two coils, one of which is connected to the primary side, and the other to the secondary side. The coils are separated by a ferrite core, which is affixed to a moveable arm. The arm is moved across the coils, changing the inductance of each coil. This results in a change in the output voltage of the transformer.

The arm is moved by a voltage regulator or control circuit, which is connected to the primary and secondary sides of the transformer. When the voltage is increased on the primary side, the current through the coils is increased, resulting in a decrease in inductance. This in turn causes the arm to move, reducing the inductance on the primary side and increasing the inductance on the secondary side. This shift in the inductance changes the output voltage from the transformer.

In addition to changing the output voltage, the sliding core transformer can also be coupled with a transformer tap, which is used to increase or decrease the voltage output without changing the total amount of power supplied. This is done by adjusting the position of the arm, which causes the inductance of each coil to change in relation to the other. This can be used to provide a smaller or larger voltage output, depending on the desired result.

In summary, the working principle of a sliding core transformer relies on the sliding of a ferrite core across two coils. This action changes the inductance of each coil, resulting in a change in the output voltage from the transformer. The sliding core transformer can also be coupled with a transformer tap to further adjust the output voltage without changing the total amount of power supplied.
