Structural characteristics


Disc-typewinding consist of multiple disc-shaped coils. Each disc-shaped coil is formed by winding the wire in a plane for multiple turns to create a shape similar to a disc. Then these disc-shaped coils are stacked axially. The adjacent disc-shaped coils are separated by insulating materials such as spacers, forming oil channels or air channels. This structure makes the disc-typewinding show an obvious layered disc-like appearance.

Smaller inter-disc capacitance: Due to the certain intervals between the disc-shaped coils and the fact that the main electric field distribution is within each disc-shaped coil and between the disc-shaped coil and the iron core, the inter-disc capacitance is relatively small, which is advantageous in some circuit environments that are sensitive to capacitance.

 

Relatively large leakage reactance:In disc-typewinding, the current transitions from one disc-shaped coil to the next through connecting wires. The current path is relatively complex, and the interlinking situation of the magnetic lines of force is also relatively complex, resulting in a relatively large leakage reactance. It can be used in the design of transformers that require specific short-circuit impedance.

Mechanical and heat dissipation performance characteristics

High mechanical strength: Thanks to the spacers providing support in the axial and radial directions, disc-typewinding have a large end-support surface. They can withstand relatively large axial and radial forces under short-circuit and other conditions, with good stability and can effectively prevent the winding from deforming due to external forces.

 

Excellent heat dissipation performance: The spacers between the adjacent disc-shaped coils form good heat dissipation channels. The cooling medium (such as transformer oil) can flow through these channels, effectively carrying away the heat and ensuring that the winding can maintain an appropriate temperature during the operation process.
