What are the characteristics of dry-type transformers?

Dry-type transformers possess several distinct characteristics that render them advantageous and suitable for specific applications.

Content

Insulation and Cooling Characteristics:

Dry-type transformers use air as the insulating medium. Compared to oil-immersed transformers, air haslower insulation strength and cooling performance. To compensate for these limitations, dry-type transformers typically require the use ofadditional insulation materials. As a result, dry-type transformers generally have higher material consumption, making them suitable for applications where fire safety is a major concern, such as in underground railways, public buildings, workshops, or hydroelectric power stations.

Impulse Voltage Endurance:

Although dry-type transformers utilize air as the insulating medium, they still need towithstand certain impulse voltage tests. This is to ensure that the transformer maintains its insulation performance and structural stability when exposed to high voltage impulses during actual operation.

Winding Insulation Class:

The winding insulation materials for dry-type transformers can be selected from various insulation classes, including Class A, E, B, F, and H. Commonly used insulation classes are F and H, which can maintain stable insulation performance at higher temperatures. This enhances the transformer's lifespan and operational reliability.

Structural Design:

Dry-type transformers are typically housed ina sealed enclosure. This design not only protects the transformer from external environmental factors but also enhances the safety and reliability of the equipment. The enclosure design must ensureadequate ventilation and cooling to prevent overheating during operation.

Fire Resistance and Environmental Friendliness:

Dry-type transformers do not use oil for cooling and insulation, which results in superior fire resistance as there is no risk of oil leakage or fire hazards. Additionally, they have environmental advantages due to reduced reliance on petroleum products, which decreases the potential risk of environmental pollution.

In summary

In summary, dry-type transformers, with their unique insulation and structural design, are well-suited for applications requiring high fire safety and environmental friendliness. Despite their higher material consumption and cost, their safety and reliability make them the preferred choice in specific environments.
