The main types of reactors include the following:

Inductor: Inductors are the most common type of reactors, typically consisting of a series of coils or windings used to limit the rate of change of current, provide inductance, and filter out harmonics.

Air-Core Reactor: Air-core reactors have coils wrapped in air, without an iron core, and are primarily used in high-frequency circuits to reduce energy losses introduced by magnetic materials.

Iron-Core Reactor: Iron-core reactors have coils wrapped around an iron core and are commonly used in power systems, offering higher inductance and current-limiting capabilities.

Oil-Immersed Reactor: These reactors have coils immersed in insulating oil and are used in high-power substations and transmission systems for current limitation and voltage stabilization.

Dry-Type Reactor: Dry-type reactors do not use oil as a cooling medium but instead use air or dry materials. They are often used in applications that require lower maintenance and are environmentally friendly.

Reactance Coil: Reactance coils are typically fixed reactance devices in power systems used for voltage stabilization, current limitation, and filtering.

Variable Reactor: Variable reactors have adjustable reactance values that can be tuned as needed. They are commonly used for regulation and control in power systems.
