Transformers often require a process known as resealing (also referred to as potting or insulating potting) because there can be air bubbles, gases, or other impurities present within the transformer's insulation system. These issues can potentially affect insulation performance and reliability. Here are some common reasons that necessitate resealing:

Air Bubbles and Air: The presence of air bubbles or pockets within the insulation materials of the transformer can compromise its insulation performance. Air bubbles reduce the dielectric strength of insulation materials, making it necessary to fill these voids with insulating potting.

Flow of Insulation Oil: Transformers commonly use insulation oil to enhance their insulation properties, but this oil may experience movement during operation, leaving voids or gaps. These gaps may need to be filled with insulating potting to prevent oil leakage or a decrease in insulation performance.

Wear or Damage to Insulation Materials: In the course of usage, the insulation materials of a transformer can experience wear or damage, leading to gaps within the insulation system. These damaged areas require resealing with insulating potting to restore insulation performance.

Isolation: At times, different parts of a transformer need to be isolated to prevent electrical breakdown or interference. Insulating potting may be used to establish or maintain these isolations.

Maintenance and Repairs: During routine maintenance and repairs of transformers, areas in need of resealing may be identified to ensure the reliability and performance of the transformer.
