Hydraulic excitation systems serve as core control units for hydro generator sets. They undertake tasks of regulating generator excitation currents, stabilizing voltages and adjusting reactive power outputs and directly determine grid connection capability, load regulation performance and fault protection capacity of hydro power house units. Water head fluctuations, load transients and grid disturbances for hydro turbine units induce excitation loop inrush currents, harmonic distortion and voltage oscillation problems and impair grid connection stability of units. As key supporting components inside excitation cabinets, special purpose transformers and reactors for hydropower excitation realize functions of excitation side voltage conversion, current limiting, harmonic suppression, DC current smoothing stabilization and oscillation damping.
